in pursuit of critical and compassionate living and thought. in surrender to courage & delight of Christ.

If the future could talk. (For: the worried, and the weary).

You say you look forward to me
But you worry, you worry
that I will not show
that I will not arrive on time
that I will not look beautiful
that this arrangement made
just for you
was meant for someone else,
was decided without your desires
was not what you bargained for…

Hear me now,
until I am ready,
until I one-day arrive,
I will never speak loud enough
for you to hear the shape of my voice
I will never lift my veil
for you to see the gentleness of my face
do not strain your eyes now
lest you fail to spot me when I arrive
I come from far far away
from where you are now
but when I am with you, you will know
I have never been foreign,
I have never forgotten you,
you walked to me all along
our paths did not cross,
indeed, indeed – they were the same…

You are frustrated that you cannot know me yet
you think whatever you hold today
could never match up, compare
But I will never be what you imagine,
so, today, love what is real,
and be present with the hour,
do not wait for me, do not worry
I am promised to come
someway, somehow
And if you are to love me
you may as well learn now,
I will always be one step ahead of you
so that you will always pursue me
so that you learn to run to catch me
and your feet always seem to dance
so that you do not give up
building a foundation for me,
building a life for me, for you.

Sincerely yours,
Your future.
